DBU's fodbolddirktør Peter Møller husker Åge Hareide for gode menneskelige egenskaber og sender varme hilsner til den tidligere landstræners familie og pårørendeÅge Hareide er torsdag afgået ved døden, og det får DBU til at ære den tidligere landstræner. Åge var et varmt og lunt menneske, der udover at være en dygtig træner også var god til at skabe relationer og bygge et mandskab med en stærk holdånd og et endnu stærkere sammenhold. Vi tænker tilbage på tiden med Åge som landstræner med stor taknemmelighed og mindes hans gode menneskelige egenskaber, og de stærke resultater han skabte for det danske landshold. - Vi sender de varmeste tanker og hilsner til Åges familie og pårørende. Æret være Åge Hareides minde, lyder det fra Peter Møller.

Allerede i 1987 indledte han en rejse, der skulle vise sig at vare mere end 35 år, før han i 2023 sagde endegyldigt stop. I 2016 overtog han det danske landshold efter 15 år med Morten Olsen på posten. En på daværende tidspunkt innovativ beslutning, og en stor omvæltning fra Olsens totalfodbold til Hareides pragmatisme. I alt blev det til tre nederlag i 40 kampe for Danmark. - Jeg arbejder hele tiden på at forstå danskerne og den danske presse, sagde Åge Hareide tilbage i 2018 få dage forud for VM-slutrunden i Rusland.
